Tom Price: The Hypocrite of Hypocrites
We all know what Republicans stand for, don’t we? Capitalism. Fiscal responsibility. Tax cuts for the rich. Less government regulation.
As opposed to Democrats/liberals/ progressives who favor government welfare and want more government regulation for the sake of regulation.
Yesiree, if America just put more Republicans with that good ol’ American entrepreneurial spirit in charge in Washington, the country would be a hell of a lot better off.
One problem we confused Democrats have with the Republican platform is, it never seems to work. But even more damning, to many of us, is the mind-numbing hypocrisy Republicans display toward their own professed beliefs. They praise capitalism but never met a government benefit for corporations they did not like. “Corporate welfare” is a better description for what the Republicans stand for. In Georgia, we have the prime example of Republicans praising capitalism–and then voting for billions of dollars in agricultural subsidies that benefit mainly agribusiness and rich farmers.
But with the Trump Administration, we have reached new levels of personal, self-serving hypocrisy And there is no better example than our own Tom Price, who left his job in Congress to become Trump’s Secretary of Health and Human Services. Where he labors mightily to pass a health care “reform” law that will deny health coverage to tens of millions of Americans and provide tax breaks to the wealthy–while he enjoys the benefits of a generous government-backed health care insurance plan.
Now comes this report from Politico. Summary:
“In a sharp departure from his predecessors, Health and Human Services Secretary Tom Price last week took private jets on five separate flights for official business, at a cost of tens of thousands of dollars more than commercial travel.”
